CWN Editor's Note: The president of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) Foundation, named after Pope St. John Paul II’s 1991 social encyclical, has called for “a global authority responsible for the ethical evaluation of the ways in which artificial intelligence (AI) is developed and used,” the Vatican newspaper reported.

Anna Maria Tarantola made her remarks at a conference entitled “Generative artificial intelligence and technocratic paradigm: how to promote the wellbeing of humanity, care for nature and a world of peace.”

Tarantola’s call for a global authority to regulate AI came one week after Pope Francis spoke about AI at the G7 summit.
