CWN Editor's Note: With the headline “Un popolo in fuga” [A people in flight], L’Osservatore Romano devoted the most prominent front-page coverage in its June 21 edition to Haitians as a “people in flight from violence and hunger.”

Citing statistics from the International Organization for Migration, Francesco Citterich reported that nearly 580,000 Haitians have left their homes.

“They are fleeing from the barbarity, oppression and abuse of armed gangs,” wrote Citerrich, “but also from lack of water, food, services, and a collapsing healthcare system.”
