CWN Editor's Note: With the headline “In flight from war, dead in the desert,” the Vatican newspaper devoted the most prominent front-page coverage in its June 12 edition to the death of dozens of Sudanese refugees in the desert as they journeyed to Egypt in an attempt to enter the nation illegally.
A civil war erupted in Sudan in April 2023, and an estimated 9.2 million Sudanese have fled their homes.
