Leading Polish prelate affirms: no Communion for those who have remarried outside the Church
November 20, 2015
Summarizing the final report of the recent Synod of Bishops on the family, the president of the Polish Episcopal Conference said that those who have divorced and entered into a non-sacramental marriage should be treated with pastoral sensitivity and incorporated into the life of the Church but are not permitted to receive Holy Communion.
Archbishop Stanislaw Gadecki made his remarks during a November 19 lecture at the Pontifical Salesian University in Jerusalem.
The prelate said that the synod fathers called for the use of more understandable language in presenting Catholic teaching on marriage, improved pastoral care during marriage preparation and the early years of marriage, and a recognition of families as evangelizers of other families.
