Activist files California election complaint against Mormon church
November 14, 2008
Fred Karger, founder of Californians Against Hate, has filed a complaint with the California Fair Political Practices Commission against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The complaint alleges that the church failed to report the full financial value of its support of the ballot initiative that defined marriage as the union of a man and a woman. Anti-Mormon sentiment has coalesced in the ten days following the passage of the initiative, with chants of ‘Mormon scum’ reported outside a Mormon house of worship in Los Angeles last Sunday.
