VATICAN CHANT
Gregorian melodies revised according to the directives of Pope St. Pius X. "Sacred music," he declared, "should possess in the highest degree the qualities proper to the liturgy. It must be holy, and must therefore exclude all worldliness" (November 22, 1903). The work of restoration was carried out chiefly by the Solesmes monks.
