KORAH

1. Son of Esau and Oholibamah (Genesis 36:5); 2. eponymous head of the clan of Korahites, a guild of Temple musicians (Exodus 6:24). Their name appears at the head of some of the Psalms (Psalms 42); 3. son of Kohath. He led a rebellion against Moses and Aaron, demanding, "Why set yourselves higher than the community of Yahweh?" (Numbers 16:3). Yahweh supported Moses in the confrontation. The ground opened up and swallowed Korah and his company of rebels (Numbers 16:35).
