US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito expressed discomfort over the frequent media references to the number of Catholics on the nation's highest court, in a talk in Philadelphia on October 20. Justice Alito complained that concern about Catholic influence is "one of those questions that does not die." He reminded his audience that the US Constitution forbids any religious test for public office, and said that the regular mentions of the court's Catholic membership seem at odds with that assurance.
