Philippine Catholic schools insist on right to dismiss unwed pregnant employees, students

Catholic schools in the Philippines are seeking an exemption from new legislation that bans the dismissal of employees or students because they are unwed mothers. “It is important that we respect the religious affiliation of these institutions, the schools, or company the persons belong to,” said Msgr. Gerardo Santos, national president of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines.
