eNewsletter Subject: Targeting the Pope?

Amid reports that the Islamic State may attempt to kill Pope Francis, we should obviously ramp up our prayers. But the Vatican is not changing its plans for the upcoming papal visits to Albania and Turkey, which may be danger points.

Even the chief priest of the Roman Catholic Church must obviously conform himself to the cross of Christ. This reality calls to mind an outstanding new movie which captures what it means to be a priest in a way that viewers are unlikely to forget. See Thomas Van's review: Calvary is a must-see Catholic film.

It is probably also very appropriate that Jennifer Gregory Miller's latest Liturgical Year Blog article focuses on The Week in the Shadow of the Exalted Cross (that is this week, since Sunday was the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross).

The feast of Pope St. Gregory the Great also fell earlier this month. This makes September a good time to explore the marvelous interpretive work Gregory did on Sacred Scripture. See my latest: Gregory the Great, Christ, the Church and the Soul in the Song of Songs....
